Water Outages and Other Utility Repairs
August 31, 2015 Water Tower
The St. James Water Department announced that the refurbishing of the water tower will start the week of August 31, 2015. This project will include sand blasting of the exterior of the tower. Even though the tower will be shrouded there will still be sand and dust particles in the area of the tower. The paint being removed is not lead based and is not hazardous to your health. Due to the nature of this project there may work done on the weekends. Permission was granted by the St. James Building Official to work on a Sunday. The city will be able to maintain the water pressure throughout the water system due to the high service pumps which we have at the water treatment facility. The city will be declaring a water conservation alert via e-mail, text message, and code red when the tower is drained. Residents with sprinklers are being asked to refrain from using their systems while the tower is drained. The contractor's estimate of time to complete the rehabilitation is approximately six weeks. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mark Sturm, Water Department Superintendent, at 507-375-1229.
