Do I need a building permit?
Generally speaking, you will need a permit any time you are constructing a new structure or altering an existing structure. This includes accessory buildings (e.g. garages, storage sheds, workshops), principle structures, interior remodels, additions, shingling, windows, and siding. Also, if you are changing the use of a building you may need to apply for a building permit--even if there is no remodeling involved. When in doubt contact your local zoning administrator!
